All About Locations and Loyalty Program QR Codes on meed

There are a few places where you'll see QR codes in meed, and we know that sometimes it can get a little confusing. But it’s all pretty simple once you know what they mean. Here is a handy guide so you know which QR code to use where.

For this article, we are going to use one of our demonstration programs for an imaginary restaurant called Delicious. You can scan these QR codes yourself and join the program to experience meed from a consumer’s point of view.

What the Loyalty Program QR Code Does in meed

The QR codes created after you create a program enable anyone with a working phone to join your program. They scan the QR code with their phone camera, and within a few seconds, they will be members of your program with your loyalty pass in their phone wallet.

But it is important to note that our QR codes split into two different types:

  • QR Code with location

  • QR Code without location

QR Code With Location

When you create your program in meed, you must set up at least one location. You can have many more (and it’s all free for up to 50 members), but you must at least have one.

A QR code with location will not only recruit a new member (or log them into your program, if they are already a member), but it will also track where they joined. In the meed Analytics portal, you won’t just know how many new members you have; you will know how many joined at every location you have active in the program.

At the same time, you can set the meed App for the location it is operating in to track where people earn and redeem their rewards.

This all means that meed can track where people join, where they spend, and where they redeem rewards from that spending.

QR Code Without Location

These are just the same as the QR codes without location, but they do not return location information. They enable new members to join your program.

In the Overview (and the Membership Analytics Page if you are a paid customer) they will show up in member counts, but not in stats related to locations and their ability to recruit members to your program.

Where do I find these QR Codes?

All the QR codes are found in the Loyalty Programs section of the meed Portal. Choose “Loyalty Programs” from the main menu.

QR Code Without Location

In the portal, these might be labelled as “General Membership” QR Codes.

The very first QR code you will see is when you create your program. It’s in the final column of the “Your Loyalty Program” Screen. If you have already created your program, you can get here by choosing “Loyalty Programs” on the main menu and then the button “View/Edit” on the program panel. On a desktop, it is on the far right side of the screen:

Tip: You can save this QR code if you want to use it in a poster you design, or even to add to the wallpaper of your phone to get people to join on the spot when you are out and about.

The other place you can find your QR code without location is on the program panel in the Loyalty Programs section.

Here you have two options:

  • Clickable Link: This is the QR code in its raw link form - click it to copy the link to your program so you can paste it to social media or share it in mobile messaging.

  • General Membership Poster: Click to load a pre-designed poster featuring your general QR code that you can print and put up anywhere you like.

QR Code With Location

From the program panel (the default screen of the Loyalty Programs section, accessible via the main menu) click, “Location/Checkin QR Codes”.

A window will pop up which shows all your locations.

Here you also have two options, repeated for every live location:

  • The QR code: You can grab the actual QR code tied to that location if you want to design it in a poster yourself.

  • Poster: A poster for each location that you can put up ready to track who joins your program where. This poster will have the name of the location on it so you can tell them apart!

When To Use Which QR Code

Use QR codes with locations to which they are tied for accurate tracking.

Use QR codes without locations everywhere else, like on social media, or if promoting outside of one of your venues.

What happens if I use the wrong one?

The good news is that if you use a location QR code somewhere else, the worst that can happen is your joining numbers for that venue will be higher than they should be. And if you use a general poster in one of your venues, then the analytics will be a bit off. Your members will never know! So the world does not end.

WITH ONE EXCEPTION

If you are using CHECKIN - where consumers get their stamps by checking in using the same QR code they used to join - it is essential not to use the QR code with a location outside of one of your venues. People should earn stamps by turning up!
