Creating a Checkin program for your bar using meed is easy and will take you just a few minutes. This article is your all-in-one guide and won't take you as long as you think. Let us show you how.
What is Checkin for Bars?
Checkin for Bars is a configuration of meed that is perfect for bar owners all over the world. It lets you
Turn your regulars into members - they even get a nice pass in their Apple or Google phone!
Incentivise more people to become regulars.
Provides a way to reward repeat customers without the need for complicated POS setups or adding a burden to your staff.
How does it work? Simple:
The customer walks into your bar and scans a QR code. This checks them in, and that is scored by meed. When they checkin enough times, they get a reward. Nothing could be easier.
Set Up Checkin for Bars
If you have your logo to hand and access to images of your bar, then this will only take a moment.
In the next few moments, we will:
Create your meed account.
Create your membership program.
Create your Checkin for Bars stamp card.
Get the QR code and link to use for member recruitment.
So, let’s get going!
Create Your Account on meed
Go to portal.meedloyalty.com.

Click Sign up for free and enter the email you want to use for your meed account.

You will receive a one-time password at that email address. The email looks like this:

Enter the OTP code in the pop-up window and press Enter.

Enter your first name in the next screen.

Next, enter the name of your business. Now, this might be the name of the bar if you have one, or the company under which you operate. This is the company that pays the bill if you go pro and use the paid version of meed.

Within a few seconds, the screen will change, and you will be logged in to the portal, ready to create the membership layer of your program. If this is your first time visiting the portal, it will take you on a tour of the page. We recommend that you let it. It’s helpful information!

Create Your Membership Program on meed
After you have completed the tour, you will be facing this screen.

In column one, we just need some basic information. This is what I am putting in for my fake bar.
Name your Loyalty Program:
Wandering Rewards
Introduce your Business:
Welcome to the loyalty program for the most excellent neighbourhood bar that never existed. We are The Wandering Pint, and we specialise in selling beer. And wine. And Whisky. And we have more gin than you know what to do with. So, drink more, and get rewarded so you can drink even more.
Industry:
Food & Beverage

Next, click the button labelled “Enter New Location”. This is the venue-specific location information. Now, this is a fake bar, so I am making up an address.
Business Name (The name of the pub):
The Wandering Pint
Location Label (So you can easily recognise different locations):
Wandering Pint - Trafalgar Square
Address (in one line):
18 Suffolk Street, London SW1
Country:
United Kingdom
And I uploaded the logo for the Wandering Pint. For best results, the image file you upload should be a square.

In column two, we add the necessary visual files so your program and card look great.
First, the loyalty program logo. Now, this might be the same as your location/venue logo, and it will be for me, so that I will upload the same file again. This image should be a square. If not, the system will ask you to crop it.
Second, you have an option to upload a different logo. If you have a horizontal logo, you can upload that here. If you do, then only the logo will appear at the top of your member passes. However, with the square logo, it will also display the name of your program. My logo is square, so I am skipping this.
Third, upload an image for your Apple Google Pass - I recommend a landscape photo of your bar, but anything will do as this image will be replaced when we create the stamp card.
Finally, an image for your poster. meed will create a recruitment poster for you using this image. This is optional for now; you can add it later.
An optional link with a name and a URL. In this case, I am using our (non-existent) website.
Leave the Joinable toggle switch on so that people can join!
Notice how the phone pass mock-up is showing how your member pass will look:

In column 3, we choose the spot colour for the program. This will be the colour of your pass, as well as the spot colour of your vouchers and stamp cards. In this case, I have chosen a rustic red.

Now you can see how your pass will look, and you can switch between the preview for Apple and Android phones.
You are ready to create your program! Verify that everything is correct, and then click the large “Create Loyalty Program” button. Click “Yes” in the pop-up box, and it’s live.
You can now see that the QR code is visible. You can scan this with your phone and become your first member right now! .Here is my membership card for Wandering Rewards:

Let’s move on to creating your reward card.
Create Your Checkin for Bars Loyalty Card on Meed
Click the big orange button marked “Create a Voucher Campaign”. This will direct you to the Create Voucher Campaign page. If you see the guided tour, I recommend taking it, as it will help you understand what the page does.

First, go to the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and click the grey toggle button above the green “Save to Voucher Bank” screen. The button will turn orange, and the calendar will become active.

Now, look at column one. Choose what type of reward will be earned when they fill the stamp card:
A percentage discount voucher
A cash amount voucher
A giveaway - i.e. a redemption voucher with no money changing hands
I am choosing a discount voucher. If someone fills the stamp card, I will give them 20% of their next bill when they come back again.
I will call this voucher “Earn a Big Discount” and select 20% as the discount amount.

In the second column, I give the voucher a description:
“Checkin every time you visit. Come to our bar five times, get five checkins, and you will earn a 20% discount voucher off your next visit”
I’m skipping an external terms and conditions link.
In the requirement, I am putting “not to be used in conjunction with any other offer”
And I have uploaded a nice picture of a pint for the campaign picture.
In column 3, I will make this voucher valid until the end of 2026. I suggest at least six months for a stamp card, depending on the reward.
And now, for the fun bit. Click the grey toggle button by “Activate Stamp Card”

Some new options open up.
Please choose the number of stamps you want on the card (I have chosen 5)
DO NOT touch “One voucher per customer” as this prevents the card from auto-renewing when full.
Click “Activate Checkin

That’s everything. Now, you can click Start Campaign. Your card is live. If you joined your program earlier, and you added the pass to your phone wallet, then you will receive a phone notification about the new card. You will also see that the phone pass now shows the stamp card.

Get the QR Code and Social Media Link
You want people to join your loyalty program, so you need to give them access to the QR code. Here’s how you do it.
In the main menu on the left-hand side of the screen, click “Loyalty Programs”.

There are three buttons here.
QR Code
Link to Loyalty Program
Social Media Poster
Click the QR code link, and your locations panel will appear. Choose the location for which you want the QR code, and it will open in a new tab for you to download. You can incorporate this in any posters, tabletop tent cards, etc. Or even have it on your phone for people to scan!
QR codes are unique to each location, so you know where people joined.

If you click “Link to Loyalty Program”, then the portal will copy a joinable link to your clipboard, which you can paste into social media posts, etc. This will be a general link, not tied to a location.
And if you click “Social Media Poster”, you can get a ready-made poster using the image you uploaded before when creating the program.

All Done!
You have now set up Checkin for Bars using meed. You have a program that people can join, a rewards card that people can fill out for being loyal, and you have QR codes and social media links to encourage people to join.
Next up, learn how to use our App to redeem rewards. You can see how that is done in our tutorial, “Using the meed App”.
If you'd like to set up your program right now, you can. Just go to the meed Portal and get started. It will only take a few minutes.
